The art of keeping a sphere
1 / Place. Ivory begins. Take a sphere from your reserve and place it in any open socket. Higher sockets need four occupied supports immediately below.
2 / Lift. Instead of spending a reserve, select one of your exposed spheres, then an open socket on any higher level. You may never move a sphere that supports another, or remove a support needed by its destination.
3 / Reclaim. Complete a 2×2 square of your color on any level to take back up to two of your exposed spheres, one at a time. You may take the sphere just placed. Finish reclaiming when ready. Straight lines do not earn a bonus in this edition.
4 / Win. Keep spheres in reserve. If your reserve is empty at the end of your turn, your rival wins; the remaining reserve claims the summit. Placing the apex wins immediately. Three identical end-of-turn positions are a draw.
Controls. Click or tap sockets and spheres. Tab through the board; Enter or Space activates a focused cell. “Use reserve” cancels a lift. Undo restores a whole turn, including the computer reply. Saves stay on this device. Lessons use curated positions and track separately from full games.
This independent Pylos adaptation uses the square-only rules from François Terrier’s open-source engine. The local computer uses a new small heuristic, not the upstream negamax. Source, adaptations & license.
